The name "Shusse-dori" is said to originate from an episode involving former Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka. When Tanaka, during his time as a Diet member, was called to the Diet while dining in this area, he is said to have run through this alley to reach the Diet. Afterward, as Tanaka rose to become Prime Minister, and the road continuing from this alley to the National Diet Building is almost straight, widening as you advance, this image overlapped with "success" (shusse), leading it to be called "Shusse-dori."
